Rubber and urethane are the two most common materials for dumbbells. The difference between the two lies in their durability and price. Urethane is more expensive. It is also an extremely durable material that is abrasion-resistant and shows less age over time. Urethane dumbbells can sustain more wear and tear over a longer period of time.
REP dumbbell racks are not included with REP dumbbell sets. The number of racks needed depends on which set you order.
5-50lb set: 1 REP dumbbell rack
5-75lb set: 2 REP dumbbell racks
5-100lb set: 2 REP dumbbell racks (95's & 100's will sit on the floor)
55-75lb set: 1 REP dumbbell rack
80-100lb set: 1 REP dumbbell rack
There may be a coating of protective oil when the dumbbells are brand new, but that oil will wear off after a few weeks of use. You can use a dry rag to wipe off the oil.
The handle length is 4.5” for all weight sizes.
However, the handle diameter varies by dumbbell weight size.
5-20lbs: 30mm (thickest point)
25-100lbs: 35mm (thickest point)
REP Rubber Coated Dumbbells have a 3% weight tolerance.
The Rubber Coated Dumbbells are more compact than their standard Hex Dumbbells counterpart. The Rubber Coated Dumbbells are compatible with REP's Dumbbell Rack, and their more compact size saves space on the rack, giving you room to add more weights. However, their compact size means they do not fit on the REP Fitness Modular Storage System (MSS) DB & KB Storage Tray.
Yes, they have a lifetime warranty* for home use and a one-year warranty for commercial use.

These dumbbells are way better than anything I've used! Quality is superb and most importantly they don't hurt my hands after they are raw from using barbells and pull up bar. Would recommend these over anything I've ever used.

I just received these so I don’t have any long term wear and tear knowledge yet but I can tell you that they got lost in shipping arriving a week late with the box literally tapped together looking like it went through a grinder and the weights/ coating for all that abuse held up perfectly and still look brand new.
Now for the three reasons I only gave them 4 stars. When I received them they had a fairly strong odor to them. I suspect this will dissipate over time so not such a big deal. The bigger issue is that in the rubber molding there are some real sharp points and seams both on the grips and the hex ends them selves. I’m guessing that these can carefully be cleaned up / shaved down with a razor blade but having just received them I haven’t tried and am somewhat hesitant to do so not wanting to wreck my wife’s new bells. Also one of the weights has a triangle around the size of a penny that the rubber is missing all together. Looks clean like it was done in the molding process not chipped later on and it’s colored/ painted black so I don’t think it will rust right away but a defect for sure and should have been a seconds quality not full price item.since it will rust and peel before the other one for sure.
With all that said, they seem like great bells for our home use and I wouldn’t hesitate to order more.
