Weight Sets | Bar and Bumper Plate Sets
Olympic weight sets are great for a variety of exercises. The weight sets we carry range from the age-old standard 300 lb Olympic weight set with metal weights, to the high-end bumper plate weight sets that allow you to drop the bar without damaging it or your flooring. A good weight set for beginners is any of the USA Sports 300 lb weight sets which will allow anyone to start getting into weight lifting. For more advanced lifters or those that want to do Olympic lifts, you may want to consider a stronger bar that won't bend under heavier loads (300+ lbs), or stepping up to the bar and bumper plate packages that allow you to do Olympic lifts and drop the bar.
Weight Sets for CrossFit and Olympic Lifting
If you're into CrossFit or Olympic lifting, the best Olympic weight set for you is going to be either the Rep Fitness weight sets or the Pendlay Package. Both of those will allow you to choose the Olympic bar you want along with how much weight you will need. Bumper plates are extremely useful for both CrossFit and Olympic lifting, so try to stick with those rather than metal plates if you want to protect your bar and flooring from damage.
Weight Sets for Power Lifting
For those of you that just need something for bench day and the power lifts, metal weights will be fine and it's just up to your personal preference of which style of plate you like best. The bar included with those sets is rated for 600 lbs, but if you're moving over 400 on any lift, we'd recommend going with the texas power bar weight set or at least grabbing a Troy 1500 lb Olympic bar with some weights. You'll want a bar with center knurl to help keep it stationary on your back while doing squats, and a fairly aggressive overal knurl for keeping a good grip. The Texas power bar and the Troy 1500lb both fit the bill, with the texas power bar's knurling being the most aggressive.
