Summary

Excalibur is the best Olympic bar we offer. Ideal for CrossFit and mixed use lifting. This is the bar we recommend for CrossFit gyms and anywhere serious training takes place. This bar is made from an extremely strong steel alloy, and the specs on this bar are equivalent to bars twice the price.

True 28mm men's or 25mm women's bar diameter, with a choice of bright zinc coating on the shaft for maximum rust resistance, or manganese phosphate for increased grip. All bars come with hard chrome sleeves for excellent durability and chip resistance.

Our zinc coating is more rust resistant and good for higher-rep workouts because it's smoother. Chalk adds a ton of grip for low-rep work and makes zinc a versatile chocie. Mangaese phosphate has less rust resistance, but rougher/grippier (like a chalk board texture) and excellent for low-rep work like Olympic weightlifting singles or powerlifting.

Barbell Specifications

28mm diameter
Bright zinc coating on the shaft and chrome on the sleeves for maintenance-free durability
Bushing design for smooth sleeve rotation
Dual knurl markings for Olympic and Power lifting. IWF & IPF specs
Medium depth knurl that extends very close to the collars for wide grips
No center knurl
50mm sleeve diameter
415mm plate loading area

-215K tensile, 200K yield
-Return to Center: Bar is deflected 15cm off the center with 3000 kg of force and the bar returns to true center with +/-.1mm (one tenth of 1 mm)

Tensile and yield strength is measured in PSI. Tensile strength measures the amount of force the bar can handle before breaking, while yield strength measures the amount of force the bar can handle without permanently bending. The Return to Center shows the amount of force that can be applied to the bar and still allow it to return to straight within a very tight tolerance. Our Elite bar is one of the strongest Olympic bars you can buy, and many bars with steel of this quality go for twice the price.

Lifetime warranty against defects affecting the performance of the bar, such as bending, collar spin, knurling defects, or problems with the coating affecting performance. Warranty covering bending doesn't cover dropping it on a box/bench/spotter arms/pins on power rack.

This bar is great. This bar spins smooth and easy. The knurling has the feeling I was looking for in an oly bar. The bar has great durability thus far. The customer service was great, I will be returning to Rep for future purchases to round out my garage gym. (Posted on 7/21/2014)

I've had this bar for almost a year now in both bright zinc and the black, and both have been awesome. They both look almost as new as the day I picked them up and are awesome for all types of lifts.

I much prefer the bright zinc for any kind of higher rep workouts but I always use the black for any pressing or squats because it has a bit better grip.

The whip is excellent and the spin is incredible for a bushing bar.

The quality control on the bar is head and shoulders above all other bars even close to these in price. It is silent when dropped or spinning, bumpers fit perfectly, and the knurling is perfect as well.

I'm glad these were the first and only barbells I will need to own outside of possibly in the future spending $900+ for a bar. After using rogue ohio bars and againfaster bars and a few others in gyms, I know I made the right choice with these bars.

Of course, you can't forget the customer service, simply the best I've received from anyone, any issues will be completely resolved right away. Definitely buy this bar. (Posted on 7/2/2014)

I've used this bar over the last 6 months or so, and love the quality of the bar. I use it for all of the main lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench press) and have also tried some compound Olympic lifts.

This is a great all around bar. (Posted on 6/11/2014)

I just picked up the new Excalibur barbell yesterday evening and used it last night and this morning. One of the best bars I've used. It spins very easily and soundlessly, the knurling is deep and very well done. I've used several other bars, and the Excalibur has been my best experience. (Posted on 4/29/2014)

I got to try out my new bar and new collars and I absolutely love them. The Rep fitness Elite Excalibur was perfect for the hook gripping at 28mm and light (to me) knurling. It had some whip to it but not bad which I've felt more out of other 28mm bars. I didn't expect extreme stiffness like my 32mm Jesup bar but it did have more than the 29mm Westside bar which is to be expected to have more but it certainly was not by much so very happy about that. I imagine the yield strength on the Excalibur helped with that as it's very very high (over 200,000psi !!)

I skipped doing the conventional pulls for the main max effort lift and saved the conv stance for the just below knee height pulls. I hate those and seem to be in a really weak position from there or I'm just not getting into a good position but still getting stronger with them. Used the Excalibur bar for the suspended pulls I first tried out double overhand w/ just a light touch of chalk and held pretty good. Then upped the weight and tried some mixed grip w/ no added chalk and held well. I started noticing the bar bending and was wondering if I would cause a permanent bend but kept going and upped the weight. A bit nervous I stripped off the weights and the bar checked out dead straight again. Again, high yield strength for the win which was another reason why I wanted to get this bar.

best barbell for under $300Review by Joel Te

I first came onto the Rep Fitness Excalibur during the search for my first crossfit barbell. While all the specifications sold me on the bar, the name was unknown to me, so I went with the Rogue Ohio bar instead. Fast forward 5 or so months later, my curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up with an Excalibur in addition to my Ohio bar. I hate to think that my decision in the first place to order the Ohio bar wasn’t the right decision; the Rep Fitness Excalibur is the best bar that I’ve used and owned. Honestly, if there was more literature or videos on the Excalibur at the time, I’m not sure my original decision would have been the same. It’s pretty fair to say that the Rep Fitness Excalibur has a lot going for it on paper. I don’t even know of another bar that has even close to the same tensile strength in a bar that costs under $300. The closest competitor is probably the Pendlay Nexgen HD, coming in at 190K PSI, but costing almost $50 more (too bad the MDUSA sale is over on them). Stat for stat, it pretty much demolishes anything in the $300 range. Let me reassure you that this bar doesn’t just talk to the talk.

28mm diameter shaft, Olympic standard diameter. 28.5mm, the standard for most crossfit barbells. That .5″ doesn’t sound like it would make a big difference, but it does, especially if you’re like me and you have little hands. Quite honestly, this is one of the main reasons I ended up with the Excalibur (I was contemplating the Pendlay as well). The knurling is medium to light and feels great in the hand; it doesn’t feel as “scratchy” as the Ohio bar’s, not as “sharp” as the Again Faster or Pendlay, maybe somewhere in between those bars. Really just depends on what you’re looking for, but I feel like the Ohio bar has the finest pattern, so it’s still my favorite. The knurl continues all the way into the sleeve, which should be good for you people with a wider snatch grip. Oh, the bar holds chalk REALLY well.

The build quality: Excellent. I was worried about not knowing where this bar was sourced, but rest assured, this bar does not feel cheaply manufactured. The sound when dropped sounds like the Rogue Ohio, just a dead blow; no rattling here. On top of that, just spinning the collars with the bar on the rack yields pure silence. The spin? You could be fooled into thinking that this is a bearing bar. The spin is extremely smooth and fast, though it’s just a bushing bar. Pulling under the bar doing some lighter (full) snatches was no problem. In fact, a few guys at the box hit snatch PR’s using this bar the other day. Coincidence? Probably….but who knows. I used the bar earlier today for some back squats and shoulder to overhead; it performed just fine for those movements as well. No worries about putting a permanent bend in it with that steel strength.

What do I not like about this bar? Not much, but there are a few things. First, as stated above, I have no clue where this bar is manufactured. I, like most, prefer for my gear to be made in the U.S.A., but I can’t really knock the quality of this bar either, where ever it’s being made. Secondly, while I’m glad they added some kind of rifling to the sleeves so that plates stay on better, sadly it still doesn’t work all that well. Plates (competition and bumpers) slide right on and off without any kind of force. This could be viewed as a good or bad thing. For me, since I’m too lazy to slap some collars on most of the time, it’s a bad thing. I like bright zinc, but maybe add a black zinc color option somewhere down the line?

That’s really it, this bar is a lot of good and hardly any bad. Having used all the bars that are within the same price point, I can honestly say that this is the best performing of them all. Don’t be afraid of ordering from Rep Fitness, due to them not being one of the bigger names in crossfit equipment. Having talked to them a few times, I can only say positive things about their customer service. If you’re looking for an excellent barbell that will probably last you a lifetime, all for a measly $289, go for the Rep Fitness Excalibur. (Posted on 4/29/2014)

I have little experience with nice bars, so this is by far the best bar I have used/ owned. Holds chalk well. sleeves spin really well for a bushing bar. I pulled the bar out of the package, and it was obvious it was high quality. seems like it has great whip as well. recommend for weightlifting and crossfit. (Posted on 4/29/2014)

Picked up the Excalibur for my garage gym fall 2013. I use it strictly for my snatch/Clean&Jerk lifts. Finally got a few months with it to come back and report my positive experiences. Plates slide on easy compared to my beater bar. I haven't found another bar the spins better. Knurling doesn't chew the crap out of my hands and it's not too light either. My other barbell experience is made up of handling Again Faster and Rogue bars in CrossFit environments. The price is hard to beat. Rep Fitness stands by their specs and product with a solid warranty. I'm local in Colorado too so picking it up and supporting local business is a plus. (Posted on 4/29/2014)

Is this a $1000 olympic bar? No. But, for under $300, this bar is simply in a class by itself. In fact, for under $500, this bar is in a class by itself. The specifications are unreal for a bar at this price point. Having spent most of my life in and out of gyms, I thought I understood quality. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! The spin on this bar is smooth and quiet. The balance is perfect, and the knurl feels good in the hand. In addition, Rep Fitness Customer Service is simply top notch. Every question I had was answered quickly and thoroughly. On top of it all, Rep gives a portion of its profits to charities that benefit the Military and first responders (Police, Firefighters). So what do you get? A bar of amazing quality, at a fair price, sold by people with their hearts in the right place. You can't do better than that! (Posted on 4/29/2014)
